I am Lynn Frair, Founder of NurseNumbers.com and I started investing at the age of 12 and am now a financial coach who works specifically with nurses — I am pursuing my dream of working along-side those intent on pursuing their dreams!
I have been a nurse and am part of the FI/RE movement (Financial Independence/Retire Early) and at the age of 39, in August 2018, I let my employer know I had been investing since I was 12 and would be retiring for months or years or maybe longer. I wanted to spend time with our young family, travel, have time flexibility and work on our house. This sparked a lot of curiosity and press, like in the The Wall Street Journal. it was difficult for me to have this knowledge and not to share it, so after many months and hundreds of questions, I officially launched a coaching business. I chronicle my journey about my transition after FI/RE here.
It is a dream-come-true. One of the things I've noticed is people have wanted help with setting up their life and finances so they can do a career transition to a dream specialty (or dream business) and it is the most purposeful and delightful things I can imagine doing. I work with them by creating an actionable, individual plan toward financial strength and dream-fulfillment. I have had the pleasure of being featured in The Wall Street Journal and on the popular FIRE (Financial Independence/Retire Early) podcast, ChooseFI as well as What's Up Next and Nurses on FIRE.
Some background about this passion: I became an ICU nurse right out of school but was soon diagnosed with a brain tumor that changed my life. The brain tumor, resulting medical bills, and decreased work during recovery was financially difficult--it wiped out many years of investment savings. My husband and I had to rebuild again from net worth of zero in 2009 and are now financially independent through hard work and prudent financial management. Having the brain tumor crystallized that I value time profoundly and try to live life with intentionality and a conscious understanding of behavioral finance and how that impacts quality of life.
If this is an area of interest, I offer the following:
Free Resources: this is great if you would like to DIY your own finances.
30 min Discovery Call for 1:1 Coaching: I became a financial coach with a specific specialty—I work with nurses toward transformation toward some type of dream (for some it is getting in a position to start a nursing-related business, getting out of debt, or learning about effective money management to better provide for their future and their family). Usually the barriers for the dream are a combination of finances and fears. For coaching I look for readiness indicators for coaching and I am generally able to tell in that first call if people are ready. If you would like to schedule a 30 min Discovery Call, you can do that directly here.
Public Speaking: I speak on healthcare options in early retirement, the 8 forms of capital, and financial empowerment and intentionality. To ask about speaking, please email me here or reach out to me through my Connect link.
